Sandrena Koning is a mixed media artist, digital designer, and photographer based in West Texas. Her work blends abstract and surrealistic styles with an evolving exploration of materials and techniques. With each piece, she seeks to capture fragments of beauty and resilience—whether through the interplay of color and texture or the juxtaposition of natural and manufactured elements. Her art reflects her curiosity, resilience, and ongoing dialogue with the world around her.

About the Artist

Sandrena Koning was born in Anchorage, Alaska, and spent her formative years in Detroit, Michigan. Growing up amidst the ruins of Detroit’s architectural landscape, she was captivated by the haunting beauty of decayed structures, where fragmented textures and vibrant remnants of color hinted at stories of resilience and transformation. These early impressions sparked her passion for combining unconventional materials to create unique compositions. This practice remains central to her work today.

Since relocating to West Texas in 2015, Sandrena has continued to evolve her artistic practice. Her work has been featured in regional group art exhibitions, annual art shows, juried competitions, and art fairs. She is an active member of several regional art associations, fostering connections within the local art community while expanding the reach of her work.

Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Design in Digital Multimedia Design at Pennsylvania State University, Sandrena integrates her formal education with her artistic exploration. This fusion of traditional and digital mediums allows her to push creative boundaries while crafting pieces that resonate with a broad audience.

Through her art, Sandrena invites viewers to explore the intersections of nature, science, and human experience, using texture, color, and form to tell stories of growth, decay, and transformation.
